I know this movie is beloved by every Leonardo DiCaprio fangirl and everyone who swoons when Kate Winslet walks onto the screen, but I couldn't stand this movie for the life of me. With a running time of more than three hours, the movie dragged on far too long for any decent film. Two and a half hour maximum, Cameron! I let Lord of the Rings get away with it because, well, I'm biased. I, unfortunately, was dragged to this movie back when it was first realeased and was astonished when I heard a gaggle of teeny-boppers talking in the row ahead of me; "The boat doesn't sink, does it?" That was just.....nope, done ranting about that.

While the costumes were gorgeous (and won the Oscar quite deservedly), the plot was weak and the acting was sub par (not counting Kate). Billy Zane played the "outraged fiance" too easily (method acting?) and Frances Fisher (Rose's mother) filled the stereotype of the social-climbing mother. The special effects were good for the time, but looking back, nothing all too special.

Ask yourself this: without the "star" power of the boy-wonder that was Leo, would the movie have been as successful as it was? Do you think the movie needed to be as long as it was? Couldn't they have cut it down in post-production?

I think everbody should watch this movie. Especially if you like drama. This movie is based on real teenage girls and how they act towards one another. Its all based on drama and girls stabbing eachothers backs in order to get what they want. But at the same time this movie is funny. I recommend it if you want a laugh.

But at the same time i dont recommend it because its all long movie. Some parts get extremely boring. When i was watching it the other day i did laugh then and there but i did get bored because some parts are longer than they should be.

One Reason Why You Should See This Movie: Small-time actor Peter Macdissi, who has only worked as the token henchman here and there, is absolutely amazing as the strict Middle Eastern father of a young woman coming into adulthood in suburban Texas during the Gulf War. His performance alone is reason enough to rent this movie.

One Reason Why You Shouldn't See This Movie: Apart from Macdissi, there's little to no joy in watching this film. It's important and fascinating, yes, with its exploration of racism, politics, sexuality, and parenting (or lack thereof), but much of the film's events are extremely uncomfortable to watch. So much so that it often veers from affecting to just sensationalizing.

Two Questions: 1) What other movies address the issue of Middle Easterners living in America and do they do a good job at giving you a perspective on their situation? 2) What connections can you think of between the themes of this movie and that of American Beauty? Have you not seen American Beauty? It's not the greatest movie, but you should see it!

I would reccomend this to people who love the art of movie making due to the fact that it was one of the first comedy movies that wasn't made in the form of a Charlie Chaplin flick. Mise-en-scene is apperent in almost every seen even the most memorable scene with the the famous quote ""Miss Robinson you're trying to seduce me...aren't you?"

But i would not reccomend this movie to people who only enjoy alot of action because this movie lacks it to the fullest.

Bottle Shock

Obviously a movie that revolves around a wine tasting in France can't appeal to everyone. Even die-hard Alan Rickman fans seem to have avoided this one like a movie from the Friedberg and Seltzer team. But, if you really can stand a plot that moves at a snail's pace (and are willing to stick around for Alan Rickman's dead-on sarcasm), then I think you'd be able to stomach this movie. By no strecth of the imagination should this movie persuade you to like the French. Quite the opposite really. You'll probably think of them as haughtier and more snobbish than ever. But they are French, so give them a break. There are a few familiar faces to be seen, but few and far between. For the general public, I don't reccomend this movie. It can't keep your attention unless you're already engaged in the plot.

Those of you who can stomach the all the wine country lingo and subtle 1970s references, answer me this; why do you think movies that seem to be on a higher intelluctual plane do so much more poorer than others that appeal to baser needs? There are very few movies that centralize themselves on one particular, relatively unknown events in history. A wine tasting that the American's whooped some French ass in? Yeah, not too much note of that in the film archives. But how many movies can you name about sports teams and TV shows? I can come up with 'The Replacements', 'The Simpsons Movie', and 'A League of Their Own' just off the top of my head. Can you name any others?

First off this movie is meant to be a comedy/romance, but there is very little comedy in it. Most of the funny scenes are in the commercials. Second is that the plot and inciting incident aren't very original. It's a "cute" movie, but not much more than that.

I would recommend it if you like love stories with a little more drama and less of the usual kiss kiss blah blah. If your not one who likes a non-chronological narrative as it may get confusing if any sequences or misunderstood.

I do not recommend this movie my first reason would be it was a dumb movie to begin with. It's suppose to be a horror movie. The movie didn't make me jump even once. I know horror movies are pointless and dumb but atleast they made me jump and get a little bit scare. Unlike this one. My second reason would be because I hated the facted that everything got revealed in the end. I think it would of been way better if it would of revealed little by little.


Why would they use a Drama genre with a Horror genre? Would it made a difference if they use a different genre other than Drama or Thriller?

Two reasons I would recommend this film are 1) it is engaging, hilarious, and at the same time portrays an in-depth and realistic study of it's characters. And 2) the main character Enid (Thora Birch) is highly relate-able as a young person who has just graduated from high school and has no idea what to do with her life and her new found independence.
