The Reader

Year: 2008
Genre: Romance
Director: Stephen Daldry (The Hours, Billy Elliot)
Screenwriter: David Hare (The Hours, Damage)
Starring: Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes

Two Reasons Why You Should See It: 1) It's a romance movie that takes place in the past and isn't boring because it switches back and forth between 1995, the 1950s, and the 1960s. 2) Kate Winslet is one of the best actresses of her generation, playing a character that very believably was both once a Nazi prison guard and an incredibly loving girlfriend to the film's main character, Michael.

Two Questions: 1) Have you ever seen a World War II movie that focuses on what happened after the war instead of what happened during it? 2) Kate Winslet won her first Golden Globe for this role. Did she deserve it for another earlier movie in her career?
