Scarface (1983)

Directed by: Brian De Palma
Written by: Oliver Stone
Starring: Al Pacino & Michelle Pfeiffer
Genre: Crime

It all started when Al moved to Miami to a place called Freedom Town when he was released from prison. He started selling drugs right away, killing anyone that stepped in his way. He wanted to have his own empire in Miami.

Another movie which involves Al Pacino committing murders similar to Scarface is Righteous Kill. He plays a cop out of control killing people who commit other bad crimes and who gets away with it, unlike Scarface where he hated police. In this movie he plays a cop alongside Robert De Nero, who everyone thought who was doing the brutal killings.

In this movie Al was playing another person someone who he is not, so it would be an alienation effect style of acting. He was playing a poor Cuban who blew up when he got into the drug game. I loved the movie. Al played the best role in this movie than any other movie I have seen him in. He was much younger and seemed so eager to be in this movie.

I would recommend people go see this movie because it's a classic, not something you can watch with the kids but a movie you can just sit back and enjoy. I don't think anyone could ever come close to making another movie like this and Al could never out act himself in another movie.

Serial Mom (1994)

Written & Directed by: John Waters
Starring: Kathleen Turner & Matthew Lillard
Genre: Comedy / Thriller

Serial Mom is a movie about a deadly female. The events kick off with this normal church family who looks like they can do no wrong but the mom is a psycho. She kills people because they don't do things the way she thinks they should be done. For instance, she killed this teenage boy because he didn't wear his seat belt while he was driving and because he dumped her daughter.

Usually the femme fatale isn't a main character, like in the old film noir movies, but she is the protagonist in this one. The reason why this works so well is because no one would suspect that the nice mom next door would be a murderer, so it ends up being both suspenseful and funny, because you'd never expect it. She tricks people into thinking she's something she's not.

I would recommend this movie to someone who like gory and twisted movies. I would also suggest you see it if you like movies that both dark and funny, two things that typically don't go together, but work here. Also, if you just like strange movies that you really didn't think could exist, see Serial Mom.

Training Day (2001)

Directed by: Antoine Fuqua
Written by: David Ayer
Starring: Denzel Washington & Ethan Hawke
Genre: Crime

Two cops, Alonzo and Jake, meet up at a cafe and after they meet they leave in the car driving around town to begin work for the day. Jake is the rookie officer and Alonzo is the veteran. As Jake goes through training to become a policeman, he slowly realizes that Alonzo isn't quite the guy he should be.

In another Denzel Washington movie, Man on Fire, he plays Creasy, a body guard for a little girl named Pita who was kidnapped. The kidnapper wants his brother that Creasy had kidnapped in exchange for the little girl's life, but the kidnapper wants Creasy's life, so he agrees. In Training Day he plays the bad guy and in Man on Fire he plays the good guy, showing that he can do both.

Training Day is similar to many film noirs because it has a bad cop as the main character. I like these movies because most cops are good guys and want to help you. But in these movies they are doing illegal activity just like other people do, which shows that you can't always expect good guys to be good.

Basic Instinct (1992)

Director: Paul Verhoeven
Writer: Joe Eszterhas
Starring: Michael Douglas & Sharon Stone
Genre: Suspense

This movie is about a book writer that is framed for murders that are happening just like in her novels. Detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas) falls in love with the book writer (Sharon Stone), and he is charged with the murder of a former rock star. As the police try to figure out who the real killer is, the tension between Curran and the author builds.

Basically this film is about a femme fatale: how a female in the book is (probably) killing people and framing it on someone else. It's crazy because why would she kill people like she does in her books when that would so obviously lead the police right to her? The character's psychologically messed up and you want to find out what she'll do next.

I think this movie is a good movie because the plot has a good twist to it and a lot of movies really don't have that like this movie does. My opinion is I think you should watch it because the characters make it seem almost too real, like it could happen in real life. Many parts are suspenseful and get you worried about Nick, the main character, throughout.

Mr. and Mrs. smith

*Plot Tease- The movie event Mr and Mrs. Smith (Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt) kicks off when Mr. and Mrs. Smith a bored married couple both working for rival assassin companies are hired to kill each other

*Cast/Crew backtrack- Angelina Jolie was in Lara Croft Tomb Raider where she played a video game character that comes to life who fights villians to recover powerfull ancient artifacts in both movies she was fighting and they both were action packed movies

*Opinion Focus- Angelina Jolie was a femme fatale in Mr. and Mrs. smith because the movie first began portraying her as a normal house wife but in accutuality she was an an assasin workin for a big assasin company.

*Final Thoughts- I would recommend this movie definitely i liked the plot of this movie because you wouldn't expect a
(Doug Liman, 2005) husband and wife to try to kill each other.

Holes

Director: Andrew Davis, 2003

The inciting incident in Holes is when Stanley gets in trouble for stolen shoes. He goes to court and has to go to a "camp" to dig holes in the desert for an undisclosed reason.

Actors: Shia Labeouf, Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Tim Blake Nelson

Shia Labeouf is also in a movie called Disturbia. This film is related because in both movies Shia is in legal trouble but saves the day when he figures out that something is wrong.

Holes compares to the Maltese Falcon because the movies are both very decitful. Stanley gets framed for stealing some shoes and has to go to a work camp. The dudes in Maltese Falcon are decived because they get the wrong falcon...nooooo.

I would not recommend Maltese Falcon unless your old and want flasbacks of how dull and boring your life used be. If you like an absolutly pointless plot then go for this movie. Holes is a good movie for younger people. Theres no profanity but keeps your interest.

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity is about a demean that hunts the home owner wife. Very deem lighting thought out most of the movie. Its nerve racking and thrilling.
I think this has some similarity in lighting since to Maltese Falcon. Not so much the story line. It must have took a lot of time and effort to pull off the senses in Paranormal Activity.
Paranormal Activity for me was a pretty good movie. It kept me on my toes, waiting to see what happens next. PA had a high growth rate in the first week. It was a good movie to bring your date to.
Maltese Falcon was a classic, kind of hard to tie it to another movie. But if I had to it would have to be a 007 movie. Just because they are both agents well at least somewhat.

OBSESSED

OBSESSED WAS DIRECTED BY STEVE SHILL IN THE SPRING OF 2009. OBSESSED IS ABOUT A HAPPY MARRIED COUPLE WHO HUSBAND IDRIS ELBA HAS BEEN PROMOTED IN HIS FIRM AND HAD A NEW TEMP AT HIS FRIM. ALI LARTER WASNT JUST AN ORDINARY TEMP SHE WAS LOOKING FOR LOVE.
LOOKING FOR LOVE IN AN ALREADY BUILT HOME. SHE BEGAN STALKING IDRIS AND HIS FAMILY. I CHOOSE THIS MOVIE BECAUSE IT HAS THE FEMME FATLAE IN IT LIKE MALTESE. ALI LARTER ENED UP TRYING TO KILL BEYONCE THE WIFE BECAUSE SHE WANTED TO BE WITH HER HUSBAND IDRIS ELBA.
IN MALTESE SHE ENDED UP KILLING HER PARTNER BECAUSE SHE ANTED THE MONEY FOR HERSLEF. THESE MOVIES AREN'T THE SAME PLOT BUT BOTH HAVE FEMALE KILLERS OR ONE THAT PROCEDEDD IN TRYING TO KILL BUT ENEDED UP GETTING KILLED FROM SELF DENFENSE.
IN BOTH MOVIES KNOW KNEW WHO ENDED UP DYING AND WHO DID THE KILLING. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANYONE BECAUSE ITS A REALLY GOOD MOVIE AND HAS U THINKING WAS GONNA BE NEXT WITH ALI LARTER BECAUSE SHE'S CRAZY IN THIS MOVIE WITH THE STALKING.

Taken

Directed by Pierre Morel

The Movie "Taken" directed by Pierre Morel was about Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) a hired bodyguard who's daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) get kidnapped while spending the summer in Paris. He goes to Paris to find his daughter and does any and everything to find her.

Liam Neeson played in many different roles he doesn't really pay the same type of roles in his movies one of them was a small role in "Batman Begins" he played a role as Batmans trainer who turns out to be evil.

This movie was like the Maltese Falcon. The detective was the main character.

This movie had ever thing from good acting to great camera shots. I think this is one of Liam Neeson's best movies. They did a great job making it realistic but dramatic. I would recommend this movie to people that like action movie like "Lethal weapon" or "The transporter".

Training Day

director; antoine fuqua

On his first day of the job a rookie cop( Ethan hawke) is assigned with a detective who is crooked and not who he appears to be( Denzel Washington.)

The differance between Training Day and Brooklyns Finest is that the main cast in brooklyns finest is all about the money everyone wants money. from good cops to drug dealing bad guys.

In Training Day only one character is after the money.which is Denzel Washington.

I liked Training Day because it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time it was action packed and Denzel Washington played a role i've never seen him play before.

I would reccomend everyone old enough to go see this movie. because its r-rated due to the guns and drugs and some nudity in this movie.

Taken

A movie that reminds me of multis falcon is Takein because he is trying to find who toke his dughter but its in another counrty an he has little to try to find her. In Multis Falcon he is tryin to find the guy who killed his partner an a mltis falcon. In the movie there is mystery an types of things like that. An in the movie taken were e see's his duaghter they are biting on who want to buy her virginity in that part they got lighting to make it look like a mystery.
The movie event kicks off by his duaghter goin to a differnt counrty. To take a vaction with her best friend.
Other moviesthis dicroter made is the movie The Transporter. Another movie that is about trying to find who did it.
Yea i would recamond this movie to every one who has'nt seen it. Because it is a very good movie it gots mysterys an some action.

The Maltese Falcon (1941)

Director: John Huston

Same deal, folks. For this week's post, review a film that The Maltese Falcon reminded you of, either the way it looked (think lighting!) or the plot (think detectives! femme fatales!). You can check my last post for instructions on how to write a film review or you can just hop right to it. Use imdb.com to look up your film's director, screenwriter, and/or actors. Click 'Sign In' and then 'New Post' once you log in. Don't forget: commenting on your classmates' posts is extra credit! 5 points per detailed/insightful comment! Here's my 4-paragraph review of The Maltese Falcon as an example:

Humphrey Bogart stars as detective Sam Spade in the classic film noir The Maltese Falcon, a story about a mysterious missing statue, but also more so about deceit and betrayal. The movie kicks off when the attractive Ruth Wonderly, played by Mary Astor, arrives at Spade's office asking him and his partner Miles to find her missing sister, who she thinks has run off with a creep called Thursby. But of course this damsel in distress can't be telling the whole truth!

Bogart is probably better known for his infamous role as Rick Blaine in the classic romance Casablanca, but his experience as a sly detective in movies didn't end with The Maltese Falcon. He famously played another hard-nosed investigator in the unforgettable noir The Big Sleep in 1946. Clearly, the man has a talent for playing a good guy with a dark side.

The Maltese Falcon is one of the best film noirs of all time, if not the best, largely because of its shadow-enhanced lighting style that ended up populating many pulpy crime thrillers for years to come. By often using only a key light, and no fill light, the black and white cinematography is radiant and spooky, showing how easy it is to set a mood with a couple simple filmmaking tricks.

So obviously I would recommend this movie, but to who? Well you need to like mysteries and plot twists, because this movie's got plenty, but also I really do think anyone who can appreciate the art of photography would like Falcon. It really has a lot of impressive camera shots in addition to a suspenseful story!

She's Out of my League

She's out of my league is a comedy about an average Joe that meets a perfect women. The women is the hottest thing he have ever seen and actually got with but his lack of confidence and his friends and family are slowly picking away at the relationship.

The Graduate doesn't have much in commen besides the women are both out of their league but I like the compliance because they both are comedy's and relate in ways you could only understand if you see the movie "She's out of my league"

The Brave One (2007)

Jodie Foster stars as Erica Bain, a middle aged woman who loved her dog and boyfriend. Tragedy strikes Erica during a walk in the park with her boyfriend and dog. A several thugish men with a camera decide to rough up the couple and steal her dog. After recovering for the incident Erica decides to take the law in her own hands when the criminals didn't get caught and seeks revenge.

Jodie Foster also stars in Freaky Friday(1976), The Accused(1988), and The Silence of the Lambs(1991) along with many other popular movies.

I enjoyed this film, it had several suspenseful parts where it left you think what will happen next. It also had a greater meaning behind it as love for her dead boyfriend led her to her revenge.

I would recomend this movie to other because of the interesting story and the well done acting.
Directed by Neil Jordan

STATE PROPERTY(2002)

Genre: Drama,Crime,Action

Director:Abdul Malikk Abbott

Released date:

The inciting incident was when he main charater (Beanie) is broke and wants the American dream he see's no other way to find it but to take it. He takes it by getting a connection to a big time drug dealer to put him in the game of drugs and getting a loyal crew to work for him so that he could move up and if you don't want to be down with him then you have lay down meaning they are going to kill you.

Beanie played in the sequence of State Property 2.The movie is more about the struggles of the drug game and how everything is on the line.

I liked the movie just because of the method acting. the acting was so natrual and realistic of things that do go down or could go down in the lower income housing neighborhoods. Also I liked the way the inciting incident started off the movie where it had you wanting to know more about the movie and the charaters.

The God Father

The movie begins with the Don ( Vito Corleone ) at his daughters wedding. His son just came back from the war but doesn't want anything to do with the family business. Micheal his son thinks nothing goods comes from the mob. Don lives life like its still the old days, things are changing. A new family is coming up, The Coreone Family. The Coreone don't have a problem with the new way things are working. They are heavy in drug crafting. The Dons fading old world values and the new way things are working will demand a terrible price.
The main charters are Marlon Brando ( Don ) Al Pacio ( Micheal ) James Caan ( Sonny ) and John Marley ( Jack ).
The Don for me had the most alienation effect only because he alwas had a really calm veiw on everything. Never really changed up his view about anything, very strong hearted.
The Godfather and Goodfellas have loads in common. One they both have respect for people in the family and live by there values. Another is they are both all for the money.

Casino

Two bestfriend played by Robert De Nero & Joe Pesci are involved in the casino buisness. They both want to have the money & the power Joe Pesci wants to steal it while Robert De Nero wants to earn it. While they both are trying to go their seperate ways Robert's wife starts to have an affair with Joe Pesci causing more drama.

Robert De Nero & Joe Pesci also star in the movie GoodFellas where both play a role just like the ones in Casino. They both want money & the power, Joe is in the mafia, & in the end of Casino Joe ends up getting killed just like GoodFellas.

Casino is a great movie in my opinion. It has a good plot, alot of crime action, suspense, and a little romance. Another reason why it's so good is because the actors in that movie are method actors, except for Robert's wife. By being method actors it made the movie better. Because those actors could be everyday people that you see, & that made it realistic and down to earth.

If you liked GoodFellas or any crime drama movies i would recommend Casino, because it's a great movie it has alot of action, alot of drama, & it keeps you thinking.

Goodfellas

The plot tease of Goodfellas is Henry's mother wants him to get a job so Henry goes looking for one. He goes to a street cornor in his neighborhood and talks to some mobsters. They soon accept him and he is in there crew.

Released September 19th, 1990

Director: Martin Scorsese

Writer: Nicholas Pileggi

Starring: Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci and Lorraine Bracco

I thought this movie was a very good film. The acting was well done all around athough at times alienating a bit much. The plot was very interesting and there was plenty of action. I never was bored with this movie and i would like to see more films of this quality.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes crime oriented action films. It includeds a little bit of everything from family problems to drug problems to problems with hiding dead bodies... and sometimes trying to not end up like the other guy.

Four Brothers

*plot tease- the plot tease in Four Brothers was the boys mother gets killed by a gangster and they all have to come together to bury their mother after a few years of being apart and them doing their own things. They go on a hunt to find their mothers killer and kill everyone who was involved in her murder.

*cast and crew backtrack- Mark Wahlberg and Tyrese Gibson stared in many other crime dramas like Tyrese Gibson in Waist deep where his son gets kidnapped and he goes lookin for him. Lovely bones (Mark Wahlberg) was about Marks characters daughter get murdered and he is investigating her murder and trying to find her killer.

*opinion focus- Mark Wahlberg was a antihero in Four Brothers because he did some bad things but he was also doing something good like getting revenge for his mother. He also was using the alienation effect in alot of the scenes. Garrett Hedlund's character was a very method actor.

(Jhon Singleton)

*final thought- i would recommend this movie to anyone i see 100% it was a really great movie so was Good Fellas i had a really fun time watching it both movies had a lot of verisimilitude thats what made them so great

The Godfather (1972)

The main character of the movie is Al Pacino as Michael, Don Vito Corleone's son. The secondary characters of this film that are more of major characters are Don Vito Corleone played by Marlon Brando, and Santino Corleone played by James Cann. There are many more actors and actresses in the movie but there are just to many to list. The inciting incident of the movie is when the Godfather turns down another dons offering to move drugs into the city for a cut of the money, the other don orders hit men to take him out and he barely survives which causes his son Michael, who wanted to be on the straight and narrow path, to retaliate for his family.

A supporting actress in this film is Kay Adams Corleone played by Diane Keaton (she marries Michael Corleone), screenwriters are Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola. The director of the film is Francis Ford Coppola. This differed for him from Godfather part 2 which he helped produce.

For one of the Characters, Don Vito Corleone, he seemed like he was doing a lot of method acting in the film. He makes you believe he really is the head of the family and makes you think that you would not want to be on his bad side. but he does get a little over the edge in the beginning and different parts of the movie.

I would recommend seeing this movie, its a classic and everyones gotta see the Godfather eventually. It definately reminds me of the movie Goodfellas, its practically about the same thing just from a made mans perspective instead of just a worker in the mafia's point of view. I was reminded of the Godfather after watching the film Goodfellas because there was just so much violence in both of the movies its practically what its about.

director: Francis Ford Copolla

Donnie Brasco (1997)

Director: Mike Newell
In the movie Donnie Brasco, Johnny Depp plays the role of Joe Pistone, an undercover FBI agent working in a mafia family in New York, Joe Pistone uses the name Donnie Brasco as a cover so the mafia don't find out who he really is. While undercover he finds out that it's easier for him to relate to his mafia family than his family back home.
The plot tease for Donnie Brasco is when Joe meets up with Benjamin "Lefty" Ruggiero who is played by Al Pacino and Lefty brings him to meet Sonny Black, a capo, and Nicky Santora, an underboss.
The role that Johnny Depp plays in this movie is somewhat similar to the role he played in the 2009 movie Public Enemies because he played a member of the mafia, although he wasn't undercover in that movie he still killed people and had "made men" as friends.
I really like the movie Donnie Brasco because I love mafia movies, I also like Johnny Depp when his style of acting is more method than alienation like his role in the Willa Wonka remake.
I would recommend this movie to any one who likes crime drama movies, especially those that involve the mafia.

bad boys 2 2003

Two narcotic Miami police officers are analyzing the continuity flow of Ecstasy into their city. along the way the find out detective Marcus Burnett younger sister Syd is working a case to bust the dealers. Mike Lowry and his partner Marcus is scrutinizing the whole case for her safety and to take the dealers off the street.
Marcus Burnett was being played by Martin Lawrence and Mike Lowry was played by Will Smith.
Martin Lawrence also played in Big Momma's House as a FBI agent trying to take down a fugitive that was trying to come get his ex wife and his son so they can go on the run with him.
I think this made me more interested in the chose of his characters in the movies that he picked to do, this probably made him look more of a better actor and in my opinion one of the elite actor in this era.
I think both actors were in more of a since of a method actor because they played their role like a cop that's trying to do it's job by taking out the bad guys. It made the movie more interesting that they both played a metho acting technique instead of alienation effect.

Polo.

State Property

Director: Abdul Malik
State Property is about Beans (played by Rapper Beanie Sigel) trying to make money a quick way because where he lives it's not that's much opportunity for people. He starts his own mafia type crew with people including Bleek (played by rapper Memphis Bleek). They start a drug trafficking business and run into completion when Boss Dame (played by Damon Dash) finds out they are selling drugs on his turf.

The actors in this movie are mostly Rocafella Records music artist. This was Rapper Beanie Singels second movie he played the same type of aggressive person but he was less comical in this movie. This was Damon Dash's first movie he ever did. The writer/Director Abdul Malik Abbott work on this movie was different because he usually did music videos and sitcoms so this was very different from what he does.

I liked this movie because it was low budget but you forgot about all of that when you watch it. The acting was better then you would think. The rappers did a great job acting and they used the alienation effect with Beans in the right parts of the movie and they still made you believe them. I liked how they put real situations that people go through with money and problem. This movie had a great overall story line, plot and acting so I give it an A.

GoodFellas (1990)

Director: Martin Scorsese

For your blog post on a movie that GoodFellas reminds you of, write a film review based on the four parts mentioned in class:

1) PLOT TEASE...describe the inciting incident (what kick starts the events of the film) and main characters of the film (identifying which actor plays who).

2) CAST AND CREW BACKTRACK...describe what people might know 1-2 actors/screenwriters/directors from and how the film differs from their previous work (look up this info on IMDb.com if you need to).

3) OPINION FOCUS...without giving away twists or endings, offer a specific opinion you have on the film, based on a vocab word you haven't used in a post yet. (EXAMPLE FOR THIS WEEK: did the actors use method acting or the alienation effect and how did this affect how much you liked/disliked the film?)

4) FINAL THOUGHT...ultimately, would you recommend this film and why or why not? Does it remind you of the film we watched in class? How or how not?

Seven Pounds

Seven Pounds was a great movie. Will Smith played the main part in the movie. His role had a lot of verisimilitude becouse someone with that many connections could in fact help a lot of people. He was an IRS agent that wanted redemption. His goal throw out the movie was to help 7 strangers. To understand why I think it had similarly to the Kane, you have to see it throw me eyes. 7 pounds was about helping people and understanding the importance of helping one and other. Kane was a man with everything but didn't have a whole lot. He wanted to help people but never got a chance to. Kane died a lonely man only because he thought money fixed everything but in realty money doesn't fix everything.. We do.
Direced by: Gabriele Muccino ( Dec 19, 2008 )

Coal Miner's Daughter

Coal Miner's Daughter directed by Micheal Apted in 1980

Coal Miner's daughters reminds me of Citizen Kane because Lynn an Kane both grew up in life way to fast but in different ways. Lynn was married by age 13 and had 4 kids by the age of twenty. she was abused by her husband and got cheated on quite often. Kane got adopted into a family and was forced into the family business quite early. he was the cheater in his relationship. Kane become rich and lonely. Yes he had money but no family because he was too big headed and the money took over his way of thinking. Lynn became famous for her singing that's all she new how to do an was able to do. Lynn got rich and became happy with her life because even with all that money she still knew how to treat people.

I think Cole Miner's Daughter was verisimilitude , i think it was real because alot of women back in the in 1900's were abused and cheated on by there husbands and had babies at a young age and many of them. They may have some talent and thats all they know how to do so they use what they got to get what that want or need to be in life.

Have you seen this movie or relate to it in anyway?
Is this a movei u may be intreseted in at all?

beautiful mind 2002

Director: Ron Howard

Genre:Biography/Drama

Released: 2002

I'm comparing my movie to Beautiful Mind. In the movie(Beautiful Mind) the main charater lost his mind. He got carried away doing something that he thought he loved, and in Citizen Kane he got carried away with money and end up in the end very unhappy and lonely. In Beautiful Mind the main charater got so obessed with math that he ended up in the end very unhappy and lonely because he also lost his wife. (just like) In Citizen Kane he lost his wife because he was obsessed with money. How I thought the movie had a lot of verisimilitude was because it was realistic and had "down to earth" problems such as in the movie Beautiful Mind he had skitzophernia and he would have an friend that no one else can see and in Citizen Kane he was obsessed with his money which happens to some people once they get money.

Baby Boy 2001

This movie admonished me on how Yevette Stop putting up with all the cheating and she was jaded by the the time he has hit her. So she decided to leave the situation when things wasnt getting better Similar to Citizen Kane. So she didnt open the door for Jody when he tried to make it up to her.

Its by John Singleton.

2001 baby boy

This movie remined me of the movie baby boy because he hit his girl an she left him. The citizin kane movie she left him. In both movies they were all about making money and not caring about others. The movie Baby Boy came out in 2001 the dic was John Singleton.

The Other Boylen Girl

The Other Boyeyn Girl (2008) Directed by Justin Chadwick starting, Scarlett johansson, Eric Bana and Natalie Portman was a biopic that reminded me of Citizen Kane. The Other Boylen Girl was about two girls that are sisters Anne and Mary boylen competing for the love of King Henry VIII. They were driven by a kingdom the only thing that can come between them.
Like Citizen Kane money and luxuries messed up their normal lives they once lived. Justin Chadwick made the movie with alot of verisimilitude. it was realistic because love makes a lot of people act foolish and betray their families. Just because it was many years ago it doesnt mean those issues dont exist today it happens all the time.

Too Legit: The MC Hammer Story

Citizen Kane reminded me of MC hammers movie "Too Legit"Artie Mandelberg in 2001 because it had the same storyline the only thing that happened different is he didn't die in the end of his movie like Citizen Kane. It's a Biopic just like Citizen Kane but they use MC Hammers name unlike Kane. They go through the same issues with money taking there life over and corrupting them. They lose there wife's and end up lonely in the long run.

Titanic

Year: 1997

director: James Cameron

Its about these two characters that fall in love. But they are from to different worlds. Jack Dawson that is from the poor social group that falls in love with Rose DeWitt Bukater that comes from the rich social group. they both fall in love on the Titanic ( the ship) they are on. Rose trys to jump to her death (commit suicide). Jack sees her and talks her from jumping and they both start falling in love. the ship hits a ice berge and he ends up saving her.

Ray (2004)

Director: Taylor Hackford

Ray is a biopic about Ray Charles, one of the most popular jazz musicians of all time (who also happens to be blind). Jamie Foxx plays the part of Ray Charles.

Some comparisons I found between Ray and Citizen Kane is that they both start off with Ray and Charles as children. Throughout the movie both of the main characters get something they want in life, for Ray is was to become a popular musician and for Charles it was to get lots of money. In the end both Ray and Charles lose someone they care a lot about. They lose that someone because they were both corrupted because of an addiction of theres; Ray was addicted to heroin and Charles was addicted to money.

The movie Ray took 15 years to produce, mainly because they needed to financial security. During the production of the film the real Ray Charles was given a Braille copy of the script to make sure everything was okay with him.

What's Love Got To Do With It (1993)

In these two films they have similarity .The male character's Ike and Kane starts getting in there own production, and then starts to get obbsessed with there money and start abusing it,and putting it first before anything and every one. causing them to be alone and to be in dept. In the female character's Tina and Kane's wife got fed up with the fact that they stopped caring for them and start abusing them with causes them to leave them all alone.
Verisimilitude: The reason why I think that this real is because when it comes to music productions and singers people persuade others that sing good just to get their business started and have there name develope in the music industry.
Director: Brian Gibson

Citizen Kane (1941)

Director: Orson Welles

What film does Citizen Kane remind you of and why? Is your film also based on a real person or true events? If so, explain who/what. Do you think your film had a high degree of verisimilitude? Explain why or why not. Finally, google and read info about your film's preproduction, production, and/or post-production and share an interesting piece of information you learn. Take a look at the director's previous films and read about them. Why do you think they were chosen as director of your film? What about the actors? Editor? Use IMDb.com as a resource!

Your blog post should include 1) the name of the film and its year as the title, 2) a picture/poster of the film, 3) the director of the film, 4) a comparison to Citizen Kane, and 5) inclusion of a vocab word from the past week in your description/explanation/review of the film. Don't forget to put your initials in the 'Labels' section of your post!

Part of your 40-point grade also comes from leaving comments on other people's posts. Leave two comments (don't forget your initials) that include your opinion on the movie they blogged about and/or what film the one they blogged about reminds you of and why.

Eternal Sunshine

Eternal Sunshine reminded me of The Time Travelers Wife (2009) starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. they're similar because in the time traveler's wife Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) is traveling back and forth in time. Its also a romance movie.
I really enjoyed eternal sunshine. i felt like it was a different approach to the romace movie. It really didnt follow the status quo of a typical romace. The mise-en-scene of the movie to me was when he was stuck in the accident scene the way they edited the scene to look like he was stuck in sort of like a mirror kind of a reflection that he couldn't escape was cool.

Waiting to Exhale

The scene from the graduate when Ben was in the pool and his parents were talking to him about his future.

I think that scene was simlar to the scene in Waiting to Exhale. When the mother was asking her son about his future after he graduate from high school. They had similar editing schemes when they kept switching from mother to son.
The son was surprise that his mother was home when he decided get in the pool. He thought his mom was going to be at work for atleast another hour.

super high me

Super high me is a documentry on a comedian that smokes weed for 30 days striaght. From the time he wakes up to bedtime. He takes many medical and mental evaluations such as the SAT and a memory test. On both he does better when he is high. He evaluates and monitors his health and well being. After 30 years of smoking there was no pyhsical harm done but his mathematical skills had deteriorated when his was high. The cinamatography was similar to the graduate because it was often shaky at times but would show little flash images. The love was story was similar because the comedian in super high me was in love with mary jane but didn't know if they could be together because the effects on him. In the end they wound up together just like Ben and elaine.

The Graduate (Ben at the hotel)

1,3.)Ben seems really nervous and paranoid about how he's about to smash some married chick. He thinks people will know.
2.)It just goes back and forth between the clerk and Ben to show there expressions.

The Graduate

I thought The Graduate was intresting but disturbing at the same time. I didnt consider it a comedy though. There was a few comidic moments or at least what the director wanted to be funny but it just didnt do it for me. It was disturbing because, Elaine wanted to be with benjamin even though he slept with her mom.

The movie reminded me about Little Children staring Kate Winslet and Knocked Up staring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogan . One of the movies is more of a drama and the other one is a comedy. Im not comparing Knocked up to it in a comidic way but because both of those movies were disturbing to me that's why im comparing them to The Graduate. Also some of the editing in Knocked Up was similar in a way.

JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE

COMEDY&ROMANCE

THE MOVIE JOHN TUCKER MUST DIE IS ABOUT A TRIO OF GIRLS FROM ALL DIFFERENT CLIQUES WHO ARE GETTING PLAYED BY THIS POPULAR BASKETBALL STAR. AFTER THEY ALL FIND OUT HE'S TELLING THEM ALL THERE THE ONLY ONE THEY BECOME FRIENDS WITH THIS NEW GIRL AN TURN HER INTO THIS REAL PRETTY CHEERLEADER. AS SHE'S TRYING TO GET TUCKER TO FALL FOR HER WHICH HE IS SHE REALLY STARTS LIKING HIM. BUT ITS ALL SUPPOSE TO BE A JOKE TO BREAK HIS HEART BUT SHES REALLY FALLING FOR HIM BUT TUCKERS BROTHER REALLY LIKES KATE AT THE END THEY DON'T CHANGE TUCKER HE JUST LETS ALL THE GIRLS KNOW HE MESSES WITH A LOT OF THEM AN THERE FINE WITH THAT KATE AN TUCKERS BROTHER FALLS IN LOVE TOGETHER AT THE END.

I LIKE THIS MOVIE BECAUSE ITS FUNNY AN IT REALLY SEEMS REAL WHEN YOUR IN HIGH SCHOOL MESSING WITH SOMEONE AND HE'S REALLY POPULAR. THIS CONNECTS TO THE GRADUATE BECAUSE AT THE END EVERYONE IS HAPPY AN HAS SOMEONE TO BE WITH AN EVERYONE IS FIGHTING FOR LOVE.

1. HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNEW?
2. HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MOVIE DID YOU LIKE IT?

Scary Movie

cinematographer: In this movie it has a scene where Bobby and Sindy are talking about why it took her so long to have sex with him. Than she starts getting teqnicle and Bobby starts clowning around pointing at the film directors behind the scene.

YEAR ONE

The movie "Graduate" reminds me of a movie called: Year One. I say this because in the movie, (year one) One of the main charaters is absoluely clueless. In the Graduate Ben acts clueless as to what Mrs.Robinson is trying to do to him. Also in year one the charater do whatever his friends tell him to do and in the Graduate Ben does whatever Mrs.robinson say even if he doesn't nessarily agree with it.

Comdy

The gradute reminded me of the movie janky promoters because when he came home he really didnt have nothin to come back to. In Janky promoters he was post to give his clients what they asked for but he purpeslly gave them nothing just so they would remeber wee there from an to teach them money isnt everything. so they will start givin back to the people.

Finding Nemo (2003)

Directed & written by: Andrew Stanton

Finding Nemo is about two fish, father and son (Marlin & Nemo). Nemo goes swimming out into the open, away from the reef where it's safe and gets taken by divers. The rest of the movie is about Marlin, his dad, looking for him. The whole time he is looking for him, there is always something that gets in his way. For example, an annoying fish follows him the whole way, they run into fish friendly sharks who end up trying to eat them and they get stung by jellyfish.

The graduate also has contains some obstacle that Ben has to overcome to get to Elaine in time. He sleeps with a married woman, he dates her daughter, Elaine, after the mom made him swear not to, he ends up falling in love with Elaine but she is about to get married to another guy. Ben decides that he has to stop her from marrying this other guy but on his way to the wedding he runs into a few obstacles, he has to stop for directions, his car runs out of gas so he has to run the last few blocks.

Pretty much, they both are about a guy (Ben & Marlin) going on a journey to get something they want (Elaine & Nemo). But on their way to getting what they want, they run into lots of things keeping from getting it.

One comparison I found between The Graduate and Finding Nemo is the editing of the scenes. They are all in order and most scenes contain major parts leading up the ending.

FRIDAY

director: F. Gary Gray

starring: Ice cube, Chris Tucker, Bernie Mac.

year:1995

Friday is a comedy different than the graduate. The inciting incident with the film is craig got fired on his day off, this leads to craig dealing with the other main characters problems. Smoky the other main character in the film is smoking up all of big worms product so no money is giving back to him so he sends ppl after them. In friday the audiences hears and sees negative things throughout the movie but it will keep you laughing.

Janky Promoters

starring Ice Cube, Mike Epps, Young jeezy

Director: Marcus Raboy

Year: 2009

it is bout these guys who get young jeezy to come to modesto, CA. They end using Russell Redds' (Ice Cube) wedding money to get the club for him to preform. JellyRoll (Mike Epps) gets caught on a reality show cheating with a cops wife. The Inciting Incident was that they didnt have the money and they had to find away to get the money

Tommy Boy (1995)

The movie "The Graduate" reminds me of the movie "Tommy Boy". In the Graduate, Ben comes home too his parents after graduating from college, but he's worried because he doesn't know what to do with his life now. It's almost the same situation for Tommy, he comes home from barely graduating college (he did it but barely), but unlike Ben, he already has a life planned for him, taking over his fathers business. In the movie Tommy Boy, the turning point is when at his father passes away at his own wedding and they need to find out something to do to save the company. The mise-en-scene that compares to eachother is when Ben just floats around in his pool to relax him, you only see him and the pool with a little bit of the backyard. In Tommy Boy he's floating around on a boat in the middle of a lake with only him, the boat, the water, and a little bit of trees in the backround.

friday

Friday is a comedy like the graduate because they both involve a guy around his twenties looking to do something with his life. Also the two movies both involve romance. Both characters want to have sex with a fine ass married woman. "Smokey", in Friday has the famous line of "When you gonna let me fuck Ms. Parkerrrrrr?!?!?!" Ben in the graduate wants to have sex with a married woman also. The cinema is similar by showing attractive parts of the woman and having the guys in the backround.

The Hangover

The Hangover is a comedy that also goes by what Ben's doing, just enjoying life at the moment. Four friends go on a bacholor party in Vegas before their buddy got married. in The Graduate Ben decides to just taking life as it comes and living in the moment and njoying life as Mr. Robinson tells him he should. in the two movies the cinema-tographers use the same style of lighting on its characters and the same use of close ups and distance shots.

unfaithful

Unfaithful was a fimilar movie because it had a triangle which happens often. It told the story of a married women who fell in love with a stranger she met on the street. They met up often and she would lie to her husband to go see this new mystery man. This movie was also unique because the husband so found out and his jealous rage pushed him to kill the man that his wife was cheating on him with.
