Braveheart

1995
Genre: War, Biography, Drama
Director: Mel Gibson
Screenwriter:Randall Wallace
Starring: Mel Gibson, Sophie Marceau

the main genre i believe is a biopic because the other elements of the story are just details in the life of william wallace. The rebellion and war that he starts are in response to the loss of his wife but he is the main story.

It may not be biopic only because i feel the best parts of the movie are the war battle scenes great bloody fights with well done gore without coming of cheesy.

would you start a war over a girl?

How much torcher could you take before yelling "freedom"

X-Men

Release Date/14 July 2000
Genre:Action Adventure Sci-Fi Thriller
Director: Bryan Singer
Writers: Tom DeSanto & Bryan Singer
Cast:
Hugh Jackman-Logan / Wolverine
Patrick Stewart-Professor Charles Xavier
It's an action adventure as they go searching for Magento as well as look for acceptance with mutant on mutant fights, mutant on human fights, and an adventure through worried New York. There is a little love but not on a quest or searching for it.
Why would this be a SciFi movie?
Could it be a horror with terrifing mutants acts?

Halloween

Release Date:25 October 1978
This movie mostly fits into the genre of suspense because of its slow movement into a violent scene. as Micheal is creeping behind an unsuspecting victim, the signature music tunes in and gets you ready to scream at the screen for the person to turn around or run. This killer doesn't even run the whole movie and it has been named one of the best.
Also this movie doesnt fit into the suspense genre because of the violence. like when Micheal stabs a teen into a door and slowly gazes at the corpse stuck (by a knife i may add) off the ground. With blood and stabbing happening left and right it is sure that this film also fits into the horror genre.
What other films can also be put into horror AND suspense?
was it wrong for Wes Craven to make 4 of these movies?

Milky!

Milk

Year: 2008

Genre: Drama

Director: Gus Van Sant

Screenwriter(s): Dustin Lance Black

Stars: Sean Penn, James Franco

I really think this movie fits the genre it was put in. Mostly because of all the different twists and turns it has. This movie makes you think alot, and make you realize how bad it was for people who were gay/lesbian/bi/transgender. There is also a lot of emotions filled in this movie.
This movie also does NOT fit into this movie genre. Milk is more of a Biopic. Seeing as Henry Milk was actually the San Fransico Supervisor. For all the emotions and twists in the movie... Come on.. A biopic is not a biopic without twists and turns... its not a monotone story..
I highly encourage people to see this movie!!!!
I give this move a 11/10 stars (11 out of 10)
What other movie with Sean Penn have you seen that has impacted your way of thinking?
If you have seen this movie, how much impact did this movie have on you

Quarantine

Year: 2008
Genre: horror
Director:John Erick Dowdle
Screenwriters:Drew Dowdle & John Erick Dowdle
Main stars:
Angela Vidal-Scott Percival

I think this movie fits in the the genre horror because it has a lot of killing, blood and gut involved in this movie so there for in the definition of horror anything that causes such a feeling of killing.

reason it does not fit in to the genre drama because it had other situations besides emotional like the situation of spreading disease.

DO why agree with me that this movie is horror film? if so why or why not?

Meet the Fockers

Year: 2004

Genere: Comedy and Romance

Director: Jay Roach

Screenwrighter: Greg Glienna and Mary Ruth Clarke

Starring: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner

I think this movie is very funny and makes a good family movie. You sit and laugh throughout the whole movie. I'm a big fan of this movie. I think that it is much funnier than "Meet the Parents."

What other movies have you seen that you consider a good family movie?

Have you seen anyother movie with Ben Stiller or Robert De Niro?

28 Days Later

Year: 2002

Genre: Horror

Director: Danny Boyle

Screenwriter: Alex Garland

Starring: Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris

One reason it fits the genre: 28 Days Later definitely fits into the horror genre because it is about zombies and is therefore terrifying. The movie opens with Jim (Cillian Murphy) waking up in a hospital. He wanders out into the streets of London to find the city completely deserted. But he quickly finds out that he is not alone and most of the population has been infected with a "rage" epidemic, basically turning them into zombies. The director, Danny Boyle, combines suspense and surprise as well as some pretty gory scenes which all add up to a pretty good horror film.

One reason it doesn't fit the genre: Although it is a horror film, 28 Days Later also has many sub-genres, including romance, drama, and even comedy. What makes this movie so good is that each scene is not shot-after-shot of senseless gore and surprise but Boyle actually takes the time to introduce the characters and make the audience care about what happens to them. The characters are all also realistic and therefore relatable to the audience, instead of the usual unhumanly flawless teens who stumble around in their underwear before ultimately getting killed off.

Questions: 1) How does this movie differ from most zombie movies? How is it similar? 2) Do you think the more genres a movie fits into the better the movie becomes?

Baby Blues 2

Year: 2008
Genre: Thriller

Director: Lars E. Jacobson and Amardeep Kaleka

Screenwriter(s): Lars E. Jacobson

Starring: Colleen Porch and Ridge Canipe

One reason this movie fits into its genre because the mom has a huge depression problem and goes on a killing spree while her oldest son (Jimmy) tries to protect the victims. The thriller part about the movie is the killing. If you think of thriller, killing comes to mind.

One reason "Baby Blues" doesnt fit into the genre because i think of it more as a suspense movie. Why? Because its based on a actual event and its like one setting movie.

1: If you seen this movie, thinking about our class vocabs, does this movie use some of them?

2: How would the director get your attention in a thriller movie like this one?

Love Actually

Year: 2003
Genre: Comedy/Drama/Romance
Director: Richard Curtis
Screenwriter: Richard Curtis
Stars: Liam Neeson & Andrew Lincoln
A reason it fits into the genre:
It fits into the genre because all the different life cases are based on a romantic situation....
A reason why it doesn't fit into the genre:
It doesn't just fit into this genre is because even though it's all romantic it alos involves alot of comedy and drama in their life...
Open Ended Questions:
1) What other movies have you seen, that are based on a lot of other life situations, that at the end they have the same point? And why?
2) Have you ever expierenced, that you don't like one actor in a certain movie, but yet you liked the movie?

2001: A Space Odyssey

Year: 1968
Genre: Adventure, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Director: Stanley Kubrick
Screenwriter: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke
Starring: Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood

Reason it fits into the Sci-Fi genre:

3/4 of the film takes place in futuristic space ships, while the plot involves a mission to Jupiter.

Reason it doesn't fit into Sci-Fi:

The scenes leading up toward the end could have been interpreted into a different genre other than sci-fi, while still maintaining the same idea and plot.

Questions:

How did you interpret the ending of the film?

Have you seen any films that made you think beyond the film itself? How?

Troll 2

Year: 1990
Genre: Horror
Director: Claudio Fragasso
Screenwriters: Rossella Drudi & Claudio Fragasso
Starring: Michael Stephenson & George Hardy

One reason it fits into its genre: Despite its title, the monsters that infect the town of Nilbog (read it backwards) are called goblins by the human characters. Unexplained monsters (and trust me, they are very unexplained) are often the villains of horror movies, constantly causing 'surprise' instead of suspense.

One reason it does not fit into its genre: Well, to be frank, it's hilarious. It made me laugh than most actual comedy films. It's spectacularly poorly made, with little to no discernible effort put into creating a sense of mood, making the goblins scary whatsoever, and the actors were seemingly shipped from a far-off land where reacting to things naturally is an impossibility.

Respond to: 1) What horror movies have you seen that made you laugh uproariously but weren't supposed to? Why make a major motion picture at all if you can't make it well? 2) Isn't it annoying when monsters/aliens/etc. exist completely without explanation? Can you think of other movies like this? How does this ruin horror movies?
