Troll 2

Year: 1990
Genre: Horror
Director: Claudio Fragasso
Screenwriters: Rossella Drudi & Claudio Fragasso
Starring: Michael Stephenson & George Hardy

One reason it fits into its genre: Despite its title, the monsters that infect the town of Nilbog (read it backwards) are called goblins by the human characters. Unexplained monsters (and trust me, they are very unexplained) are often the villains of horror movies, constantly causing 'surprise' instead of suspense.

One reason it does not fit into its genre: Well, to be frank, it's hilarious. It made me laugh than most actual comedy films. It's spectacularly poorly made, with little to no discernible effort put into creating a sense of mood, making the goblins scary whatsoever, and the actors were seemingly shipped from a far-off land where reacting to things naturally is an impossibility.

Respond to: 1) What horror movies have you seen that made you laugh uproariously but weren't supposed to? Why make a major motion picture at all if you can't make it well? 2) Isn't it annoying when monsters/aliens/etc. exist completely without explanation? Can you think of other movies like this? How does this ruin horror movies?
